The DOGE Subcommittee Targets NPR and PBS
The House DOGE subcommittee has announced its plans to scrutinize NPR and PBS regarding their public funding. Chairwoman Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has summoned the CEOs of both organizations to testify at a hearing scheduled for March 3 or 24. In her letters, Greene has accused the media outlets of producing 'systemically biased' content. She stated, 'As an organization that receives federal funds through its member stations, PBS should provide reporting that serves the entire public, not just a narrow slice of like-minded individuals.' Both NPR and PBS have expressed willingness to defend their contributions to public media. Notably, NPR claims to receive less than 1% of its annual budget from federal funds, while PBS relies on government support for approximately 15% of its revenue. This inquiry marks the beginning of what may unravel as contentious discussions regarding public media funding and perceived biases.
