Nate Silas – “Wandering Lunacy”
A heartrending introspection on friendship and loss, “Wandering Lunacy” is a stirring folk success from Nate Silas. The track is directly inspired by Silas’ friend, Shaunah; January 31st represents the anniversary of her passing, and also marks the track’s release date. The title “Wandering Lunacy” was inspired by Shaunah’s old email address. Silas describes his late friend as “a remarkable person,” who had stylish fashion sense and artistic talent. “Long may your lunacy wander / Over the hills and yonder,” he sings during an especially enveloping section, artfully capturing a free-spirited, beautiful soul.
“We met in the halls of that crumbling school,” the opening vocals let out, describing Shaunah and their first meeting in high school. Tales of friendship, and hopes for more time together, compel within a melodic arsenal of piano and acoustics. “Now you’re far away, and I never got to say,” Silas sings thereafter, moving into a twinkling piano-laden “today I heard the news,” grim realizations of her passing. “Wandering Lunacy” is a beautiful account of true friendship and enduring legacy.
In honor of Shaunah and grieving parents everywhere, Silas is donating all proceeds from downloads of the single on Bandcamp to The Compassionate Friends, a charity that supports parents who have lost a child.
