Lil Yachty apologises for getting involved in Cardi B and Nicki Minaj’s feud: “I respect both of these women”
Lil Yachty has apologised for picking a side during Cardi B and Nicki Minaj‘s 2018 feud, saying he “inserted” himself into “something he had nothing to do with”.
The rapper was the latest guest on former NFL star and media personality Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast. During the episode, Sharpe asked the Atlanta star about a 2018 remark he made on the BET late-night show, Raq Rants. He told Harper he would choose Cardi B’s side in the feud “every time” and ‘couldn’t’ work with Nicki Minaj.
“You said you wouldn’t work with her because [of] your allegiance to Cardi B – do you wanna retract that?” Sharper asked Yachty. The rapper said he had already taken back the statement and explained why he regretted picking a side.
Lil Yachty says he still regrets picking a side between Nicki and Cardi in new interview:

“I respect both of these women, right?,” Yachty said at the two-hour and 20-minute mark into the episode. “Aside from the differences – and I think they are both very talented women in the industry who have, rightfully so, are on their way to the top. I hated that I even answered that question because I kind of just inserted myself in something I had nothing to do with.”
He said Minaj hasn’t unblocked him on social media since 2018 after he made the comment, saying: “It’s cool. I’ll love Nicki from a distance.”
Yachty added: “And the craziest thing is that I was a part of the Barbs. I love Nicki, bro. I still do, but I get it. I said what I said. I was young and I inserted myself in some shit I really ain’t had no business doing.”
He continued: “So again, it was an apology to Nicki and to Cardi, because Cardi didn’t say, ‘Go out there and speak for me.’ She didn’t. So I apologise [for] all that and – I tell you – I’ll never put myself in no shit ever again. I swear to God!”
Sharpe tried to get Yachty to comment on Minaj’s past disputes with Megan Thee Stallion and Remy Ma, but the ‘Broccoli’ rapper avoided the question by praising the current wave of women at the top of the rap world.
“I love them all,” he said before giving props to GloRilla, Sexyy Red and Doechii. Watch the full episode below.
In 2017, Cardi B and Nicki Minaj’s feud intensified over their collaboration on Migos’ single ‘MotorSport’: Cardi felt sidelined in the song’s promotion and Minaj believed Cardi sent subtle jabs at her in her verse.
The drama escalated in September 2018 during New York Fashion Week where the two had a physical altercation at the Harper’s Bazaar Icons party, resulting in Cardi walking away with a bump on her head. Since the event, the duo have seemingly come to a truce but neither Cardi nor Minaj have publicly said their conflict is resolved.
In other news, Lil Yachty will be one of the opening acts on Tyler, the Creator’s upcoming ‘Chromokopia’ world arena tour, which will start next week (February 4) in Minneapolis. You can find tickets for US and European dates here, Australia and New Zealand here and the UK here.
