Haltom City brothers identified as victims in fatal weekend shooting near their home

Brothers who lived in Haltom City have been identified as the victims in a weekend killing near their home, according to police and their friends.

Kevin Obando, 27, and Keith Obando, 21, were shot dead about 2 a.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of Bernice Street, Haltom City police said.

There was no indication the victims were involved in a crime when they were shot, police said.

Israel Ayala of Fort Worth and Joseph Ovalle of Haltom City were arrested Sunday in the case and booked hours after the killings, police said. Both are 19.

The suspects face charges of capital murder of multiple people, police said.

Police have not released information on a motive for the homicides.

Friends of the Obando family started a campaign to raise money at Gorditas Mi Durango restaurant in Fort Worth to help with funeral costs.

There is also a GoFundMe webpage, which had raised about $3,000 toward a goal of $30,000 for the family as of Tuesday afternoon. The GoFundMe notes that Kevin Obando leaves behind a wife and young son.

A fair at Gorditas Mi Durango, 3321 NE 28th St. in Fort Worth, is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday.
