Grammys 2025: Beyoncé finally wins Album Of The Year

Beyoncé has once again made history at the 2025 Grammy Awards – find out more below.

After having previously been nominated four times for Album Of The Year but losing out, Beyoncé has finally won the coveted award this year for her acclaimed ‘Cowboy Carter’. With a record-breaking 99 nominations, Beyoncé can now add Album Of The Year to her long list of accolades.

Besides her first win in the category, Billboard reports that Beyoncé is also now the first Black woman of the current century to win the award as a solo act. She has also further broken the record for most Grammy wins, now standing at 35 trophies – three of which were clinched this year.

Besides Album Of The Year, she was also awarded Best Country Album, which was delivered to her by Taylor Swift. Beyoncé has now become the first Black woman to win the award.

She said in her speech: “I was not expecting this… I want to thank God that I’m able to still do what I love after so many years. I’d like to thank all of the incredible country artists that accepted this album. I think sometimes genre is a codeword to keep us in our place as artists and I just want to encourage people to do what they’re passionate about.”

Elsewhere during the awards ceremony, she and Miley Cyrus won the Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performers for their collaboration ‘II MOST WANTED’ – check out the full list of Grammys 2025 winners here.

Beyoncé’s win for Album Of The Year comes after her husband Jay-Z slammed the Recording Academy last year for never honouring her with the award despite being the most-nominated artist in history: “Think about that: the most Grammys, never won Album of The Year, that doesn’t work.”

Prior to her wins at the 2025 Grammys, she announced the long-awaited ‘Cowboy Carter’ tour, though dates and cities have yet to be revealed.

In a glowing five-star review of ‘Cowboy Carter’, Janessa Williams wrote for NME: “even if interpreted only on the grounds of artistic spectacle, it’s an undeniable thrill to see her swing so big on a project that dares her to be so intimate and vocal-focused, while making way for country’s up-and-comers too.”

The album was crowned the seventh best album of 2024 by NME, with Williams once again writing: “Narratives surrounding Beyoncé’s eighth studio album had it pegged as a country record. But when taken as a whole, ‘Cowboy Carter’ was an eclectic ode to Southern American culture. From trap and bounce to gospel and soul, it was a masterclass in creativity from an artist who never forgets her roots.”
