Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Emmerdale star Isabel Hodgins has spoken on the future of her character Victoria Barton and David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) following their upcoming split.
Scenes next week on the soap will see Victoria decide to end things with her other half after he submits her name for a speeding fine that he recently received.
David is “upfront and honest” in telling her that he should never have done it, with Isabel revealing: “She obviously has the three points from when she went through the lights and so she’s furious and rightly so.”
Reflecting on David’s reasons for confessing, the star suggested that “he does have a soul and a moral compass and the guilt was eating him up,” and ultimately, Victoria is “a great partner and he knows that keeping this from her isn’t right and she needs to know what’s going on”.
However, Isabel admitted that she is “absolutely” furious on her character’s behalf, expanding: “It’s the betrayal, it’s the lie, it’s the thinking he could do what he did and get away with it and it’s the repercussion of someone then having six points on their licence.”
The star continued: “She’s deadly serious [about turning him in to the police] and a big believer that actions have consequences.
“She tries to do the right thing the majority of the time and expects other people to uphold that standard. There are a lot of kids also and it’s setting an example for the family which is do the right thing.”
David eventually does come clean to the police, assuring Victoria that he has cleared her name, though this isn’t enough to salvage the relationship, as he then finds her moving her things out.
Opening up about Victoria’s decision, Isabel explained: “I think it’s out of sheer frustration and an accumulation of all the things he’s done.
“Because she’s taken on his money issues, because he’s been selfish and her son ended up in hospital, because of the speeding fine and the points on her license, and then at his birthday he’s giving it the big ‘I am’ and she’s at the end of her tether with it.”
The star admitted that she thinks Victoria has made the right call, though said it would personally be “hard” for her as an actress as she loves “working with Matthew [Wolfenden] and I really like Victoria and David on screen.
“But speaking for her and as a respect thing I do think she has made the right decision,” she added.
