DC boxer murdered; police look for car involved

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said detectives were looking for a car that was involved in a deadly shooting that took place in Southeast Saturday morning.

The shooting happened shortly before 11:40 a.m. in the 2700 block of 30th St. SE. When officers got there, they found Arthur Harrison Jr., 62, had been shot. DC Fire and EMS took Harrison to the hospital where he died.

Harrison, whom many people knew as “Buddy” was a fixture in the boxing world. He was the owner of Old School Boxing and the father and trainer of Dusty Hernandez Harrison. Dusty was set to make his return to the ring as the headliner at the Beltway Battles boxing event scheduled for Oct. 1. People with the event sent a statement to DC News Now that said, in part, they were deeply saddened to hear about Harrison’s death and that he was a generous person who constantly was helping people in the D.C. community.
