Beyoncé Proves That Winning Is The Best Form of Activism
At the 2025 Grammy Awards, Beyoncé excelled beyond expectations, making history as the first Black woman to win album of the year this century and the first to ever receive the best country album award. Her approach to creating a country album was simple yet powerful; she didn’t seek permission, she simply delivered a work that demanded recognition. This historical moment serves as a blueprint for economic empowerment, pointing towards 'Inclusive Economics'—a concept where Black and Brown communities actively participate and thrive in the economy. This shift from diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs to tangible economic influence is essential. Currently, Black Americans control $1.8 trillion in buying power, yet their median household wealth is ten times lower than their white counterparts. With Black entrepreneurs starting businesses at an unprecedented rate but receiving less than 2% of venture capital funding, it’s imperative we alter the conversation towards ownership—be it in business, real estate, or tech—to foster permanent power. Beyoncé’s Grammy wins emphasize that achieving excellence is a critical tool for advocacy and change, encouraging a mindset shift across various industries to focus on making a substantial economic impact. Only then can we develop a financial ecosystem that supports generational wealth and overturns inequalities, proving that winning is indeed the best form of activism.
