Attempted robbery at Wendys in Stapleton; second incident on Bay Street in 24 hours

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — NYPD officers responded to an attempted robbery Saturday afternoon in Stapleton, an NYPD spokesperson told the Advance/SILive.com.

The incident happened at 12:20 p.m., at Wendy’s, located at 330 Bay St., according to the spokesperson. The individual showed a knife to an employee after demanding money.

The spokesperson said no money was taken at the scene.

The attempted robbery is the second incident to happen on Bay Street in the span of 24 hours.

Police responded to a report of a robbery at around 8:55 p.m. inside at 1201 Bay Street., according to a spokeswoman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

Bay Cigars And Tobacco is located at the address supplied by police.

A 51-year-old victim told cops that five males wearing ski masks entered the store. One of the males pushed him in a corner while another struck him in the head multiple times with a closed fist, police said.

The other three suspects removed items from the store — in total the group took about $1,500 worth of vapes and merchandise, the spokeswoman said.

There have been no arrests and an investigation remains ongoing. A description of the suspects was not immediately available as of Saturday…
